Dubai Watch Wins His Spot Into the VRC Grand Handicap

Winning Trainer: Vincent Hall
"It is slightly disappointing for the owners but we were going to be an emergency in the last race. I like the horse at 2000 (metres) either way.
"This qualifies for a 2000m race on Cup Day so they'll get their day there. You have to pivot sometimes.
On Luke Currie: "He has always been a very good rider. I'm surprised he's not getting more opportunities but if you want a job done, put him on.
Improvement from last start: 'We peaked on our run in Sydney so we needed the rest. He was slightly under at Bendigo but will peak on Cup Day."
Winning Jockey: Luke Currie
Friendship with Hall: "Vinny and I have been best mates since we were kids. We were apprenticed together - I was a bit older than him. We lived together, we've done a lot together. Nice to get a winner for him.
"He's been well schooled. He's David Hall's nephew, Ronny Hall, all the Halls, he should know what he's doing. He does a very good job with a small team he's got and they are always presented well at the races. Not a lot of them have the greatest amount of ability but I think he gets them to run to their best."
On the run: "There was a bit of pressure on and the horse is never quick. I rode him one day and put him up on the speed and he was terrible. I thought I'd ride the horse for the horse where if he landed in a spot, just let him be there and no drag him around and not push him forward.
"He ended up inside off a nice speed and he was saving ground, saving his carrots, and he just needed an out on the corner. He's got quite a good finish on him.
"He's not the bravest horse so I had to push out on him. Today it was a good effort and he has been improving each preparation."
Flemington: "He ran well there last year. He's the type of horse that needs the right run but the big, flat track will suit him."
